OnbehalfoftheOrganizingCommittee,weareverypleasedtoinviteyoutoattendtheAnnualWorldConferenceonCarbontobeheldinShanghaiduringJuly24-29,2011(Carbon2011).WecordiallywelcomeyoufromallovertheworldtotheConferenceCenteratEastChinaUniversityofScienceandTechnologytocommunicatewitheachother.
TheAnnualWorldConferenceonCarbon,whichisheldintheAmerican,Asian,andEuropeancontinentsalternatelysince2000,isauniquechancefortheacademicandindustrialpeopleinvolvedinthescienceandtechnologyofcarbonmaterialsandrelativefieldstoassembleanddiscusstheircurrentresearch.EastChinaUniversityofScienceandTechnology,UniversityofShanghaiforScienceandTechnology,andInstituteofCoalChemistry,ChineseAcademyofSciences,co-hosttheCarbon2011undertheguidancetheAsianAssociationofCarbonGroups.
Withtherapiddevelopmentofcarbonscienceandtechnology,carbonmaterialsplayanimportantroleinourdailylife.Carbonisold,butitisnew.Withdiscoveriesoffullerenein1985,carbonnanotubein1991andgraphenein2004,carbonalwaysattractsmuchattention.“NiceCarbon,NiceLife”isthethemeforCarbon2011andwillbecomeaforevertheme.Carbonexhibitselectronicandstructuralversatility,extremepropertiesandabundance,havingbecomemoreandmoreindispensableinourmodernsociety.Wecansurprisinglyfindthatwearenearlycoveredwithcarbon-basedandderivedgoodseverywhere.Advancesinnanocarbonscontinuetodeeplyimproveunderstandingofthefundamentalsofcarbonmaterialsandrevealexcitingnewapplications.
